An execution…in Pa??

Nobody has been executed in the state of Pennsylvania since 1999. That’s 13 YEARS!

Today could mark the end of that streak.

Pennsylvania isn’t a state of saints. We have murder and manslaughter like everyone else. It has been increasing actually. But, we just don’t seem to execute anyone.

If his lawyers are unsuccessful at gaining clemency, Hubert Michael, Jr. will be put to death by lethal injection in a converted field hospital at Rockview State Prison in Bellefonte for the shooting death of 16-year-old Trista Elizabeth Eng in south-central Pennsylvania in 1993.

The execution was scheduled to take place at 7 p.m., but the death warrant that Gov. Tom Corbett  signed was good until midnight. Legal maneuvering to stop the procedure could delay the execution or force it to be postponed to a future date.

Read the story HERE.

I’m on the fence with execution. Some folks who murder I believe should be taken out of society permanently. When someone posses such a threat to humanity, why risk keeping them around? Some people are seriously deranged and have no compassion for his/her fellow-man. Other times I think they should rot in a 4×4 cell for the rest of their lives staring at photos of the person/people they killed getting nothing but stale bread crusts and dirty water to drink and a pan to shit in.

This is one of those cases that I think he should be forced to sit in a 4×4 cell staring at a photo of the poor girl he killed.

So that’s my thoughts on that. Have an opinion? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Hi Heather!! Hope you are feeling better and getting answers to your medical needs. I’ve been super busy but always make time to read your blogs. My thoughts on executions is the same as yours with one exception: I don’t feel we should supply him crusty bread with our tax money. We’ve already spent too much keeping him in prison for murdering that precious teenager. Lets put that money to better used.

    • Hi Nancy! I was wondering how you’ve been!

We’re slowly getting answers. Just need to wait on all the results from the lumbar puncture yesterday.

I definitely agree that our tax dollars shouldn’t be used to keep them there. Their families should have to foot the bill for their stay in prison. Not us.
