A few months ago, around March-April, Pitt was receiving bomb threats pretty much every other day. It sucked. I don’t go to Pitt (yet), but I work right next door at UPMC Presby. (For those who don’t know UPMC stands for University of Pittsburgh Medical Center…Uni of Pittsburgh is Pitt)
They finally arrested someone!
I figured it was disgruntled ex-employee or student. No, it was 3 different people. 1 was a 64-year-old Irish man who has a serious issue with Pennsylvania. It’s kind of ironic though. An Irish man causing such chaos in Pittsburgh when our own Art Rooney is the ambassador to Ireland.
According to the indictment, Busby committed international extortion when he used computer servers in Austria and the Netherlands to send emails claiming the threats would end if Chancellor Mark Nordenberg withdrew a $50,000 reward that was being offered.
Adam Stuart Busby is also charged with threatening U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton, and claiming bombs had been placed at courthouses in Pittsburgh, Erie and Johnstown on June 20 and 21.
Busby had been a suspect since mid-April and has been taken into custody in Ireland on unrelated charges. He faces 17 counts of wire fraud, 16 counts of maliciously conveying false information in the form of bomb threats and two counts of international extortion.
So that’s one guy. The other 2 are twenty-something year-olds from Ohio who claimto be part of hacker group Anonymous. Alexander Waterland, 24, of Loveland, Ohio, and Brett Hudson, 26, of Hillsboro, Ohio, have also been indicted on charges they engaged in a conspiracy targeting Pitt with interstate threats between April 25 and May 23.
They threatened to release student and staff financial information and other shit. More or less, they were being a couple of little shits.
I’m not sure how much I believe that they are/were a part of Anonymous. What reason would Anonymous have for hacking Pitt?
