It has been an exciting week for Pittsburgh as far as hockey goes.
Jagr had talks with Lemieux and the draft started on Friday.
Jaromir Jagr, former captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins, has been in talks with Mario Lemieux and Ray Shero about…returning to the burgh! Jagr has shown interest in the Red Wings and the Pens. I’ve been on the fence about how it would be having him back, but thinking about the talent on the team and what Jagr can add, it could be a wise move.
His agent, Petr Svoboda, was supposed to be at the draft in order to talk with Shero; however, he did not go. I’m not too sure if that is a good or bad sign. Perhaps Jagr’s mind is made up about which team he’ll accept an offer from.
Jagr can’t sign with anyone in the NHL until July 1st so everything is remaining hush, hush as far as his decision is until then.
The Pens picked Western Hockey League stand out Joe Morrow.
A slick offensive defenseman, Morrow produced nine goals and 40 assists while playing for Portland last season. He is from Sherwood Park, Alberta.
There is one Pittsburgh native, Brandon Saad who is still on the boards. But no worries, the draft will finish up today so there is still a chance he’ll get drafted.
Pittsburgh sure seems to be churning out the athletes lately.
The New York Rangers picked J.T. Miller, a native of East Palestine, Ohio but residing in Moon. He was the 15th pick.
