The 2011 Pittsburgh Marathon and Cirque du Soleil: Totem

It’s that time of year again. The 2011 Pittsburgh Marathon.

It will be on Sunday, May 15, 2011.

22,000 people are expected to participate in this weekends Marathon making it the events largest turn out ever. Leading up to the marathon there will be a free concert by Donora and fireworks, an expo and pasta dinner. The marathon will span 13 neighborhoods, is 26 miles long and will feature over 60 bands along the marathon route.

5 a.m.: Start line open at Liberty Avenue at Sixth Street, Downtown
6 a.m.: Walker start
6:50 a.m.: Wheelchair start
7 a.m.: Official runner start
4:30 a.m.-2 p.m.: Blue Water Tavern Finish Line Festival, Stage AE and the Great Lawn, North Shore

On top of the Marathon, Cirque du Soleil is in town.

The story traces the evolution (and sometimes de-evolution) of man from the amphibian state to an infinite state of being. Along the way, writer and director Robert LePage brings triumph, heartbreak, fascination, humor, love, introspection and a lot of pure wonder.

It opened yesterday May 12, 2011 and was supposed to last until the 29th but was extended until June 5. I doubt I’ll make it to the showings but with how amazing they are I would suggest going to see them.
